Hi,
I've found this sousaphone, the bell is engraved Frank Holton & Co, Elkorn
On the second valve casing this is also engraved. The serial (5 digits - 99xxx) traces back to 1928 (I think)
The bell connection is inverted, so the screws are on the bell and this matches the period it was build (based on other info I found on the web). I saw a big brother at http://www.thevillagetinker.com/Holton% ... aphone.htm" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank which has a similar tubing configuration on the valve section.
Any idea what model this is and the value?
I can see there were some repairs done over the years, but the instrument plays great with great sound and the valves have very good compression.
thx!
Which model Holton sousaphone?

Check out this 1929 Holton price list:
http://www.saxophone.org/museum/publications/id/356
Your sousa is probably the BBb Sousaphone Medium or Holtonophone Medium model.

The gooseneck does not seem to be correct for the period on the horn. The ones I've seen are more of a 90 degree angle rather than the curved one shown. This suggests that was modified at some point in time.

Thx! this gets me somewhere.
Based on the 1929 Holton Price list narrowed it down to a medium or Holtonphone
@opus37: any chance you have a picture of the original gooseneck?
Searched for images on the web, but only thing close was this:

did it look like this?

Poking around the 1920's Holton catalogs and other publications at the saxophone.org site, there are several illustrations of Holtonophones and none of them have valve tubing wraps that match your photo. I'd wager that your instrument is the Sousaphone Medium.
