Best straight mute Miraphone 186 CC?

Post by FatCat »

My local community orchestra is doing Pictures at an Exhibition later this year, so I've decided to buy myself a mute for my Miraphone 186 CC.

Do you have any suggestions for what I should buy? I was thinking of ordering a Humes and Berg 206 or 208. Will either fit and is one better than the other; or would you recommend a different mute altogether?

206 is fine for a 186, as is the new Wessex Tuba mute....

Well, if you have money to burn, take the advice offered. If you don't have money to waste, don't bother!!!
There is a fair chance that even the conductor won't notice and if he does, suggest that HE forks out hundreds of $$$$$$$$$ to buy it for the orchestra to own. Almost certainly nobody in the audience will have a clue.

Many a long year ago, I got a call to play that chart in a full time, pro orchestra and it was only when I got to the rehearsal after a couple hours flying time that I knew what was on the program. 1 rehearsal then the show. I had my old King BBb rotary monster, no mute. Nobody gave a tinkers damn about not having a mute but, they did like Bydlo.

I picked up a Wessex for my 186, it works well and is relatively cost effective.
