The "Best Brass" practice mute is not new, but I've had it for about 3 yrs now and use it when I have to be quiet. I like it because it's very portable and fits entirely in the bell. It knocks the sound down by about 90% I think. Intonation is a bit off on some notes, but I just ignore it. I'd rather play without a mute of course.

On my horn (M5050) with a bell of 12.25", it fits lower into the bigger bell. I added a little knob so I could remove it more easily.

Unfortunately I haven't tried the Wick to compare, but like Rick F, I came here to plug the Best Brass mute.

Works pretty well in an apartment, but maybe not at night when the world has quieted down. I love it when we're on the road and I want to play a bit back stage or in the hotel.
