Coins On Valves

Post by thegreatrodinkis »

Hey, I was just wondering what the benefits of putting coins in the end of your valves is. I've seen lots of tubas that have been doing this and I just wanted to know why it's going on. Thanks!

I will add that the design of the coins will provide a bit more grip for your fingers than a smooth paddle if you are concerned about slipping off while playing.

Pre Eurozone coins on tubas look cool.

One can not underestimate that!!

My Rudy was originally a 3 valve tuba and at some point in time a 4th valve was added.
Unfortunately the paddle used for the 4th valve is as short as the 2nd valve paddle.
Adding an old (pre-Euro) Belgian 5 frank coin solved this issue for me.

Or current-era, European, non-Eurozone coins.
