Not a question of who, but rather what equipment he used

Post by Billy M. »

I have the Rex Martin in Japan album downloaded from iTunes (he sounds absolutely fantastic).

Does anyone know what horn(s) he played for these recordings?

Sorry, I can't say for sure what model he uses. But ask him.
Since he appears among the Rudolf Meinl players, it's most likely one from them.
There are three mentioned.

He used his Besson Eb tuba with an original (1930s vintage) Conn Helleberg mouthpiece.

He told me that he does not usually use that particular mouthpiece, but in his preparations leading up to the recital, it was providing him with the best accuracy, so he went with it.

Thanks for the replies, guys. His playing is absolutely superb for the recital.
