Re: tuba received
UPS or Fedex? I will go with UPS for my final answer.

Good grief! That almost looks intentional....

Undoubtedly the one with the common-sense, peace-of-mind tracking system that lets you narrow down the list of possible places where they destroyed your tuba.

Re: tuba received
One guess as to whether they will actually own up to the fact that they caused the damage.

I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

And let me guess...
Another case where the outside of the box sustained no obvious trauma?
In any case, I'm sorry to see that happened.

But really:
1) That sucks
2) That packing job really sucks
3) I wouldn't want to be the guy who has to fix it
4) But really, that sucks.

Re: tuba received
The biggest issue now is getting ups to cover the damage. UPS uses a 3rd party for claims and they will deny everything. We shipped a tuba over the holidays last year against my better judgement so it could be under the tree. Well we shipped it and it iy arrived damaged. Although it was pretty minor it still sucks. Even though I feel as though I can pack a tuba like no bodies business it doesnt matter because of the way these boxes are thrown around.

Re: tuba received
I try to avoid shipping via UPS at all costs. A former bandmember was a driver for them and flat out told me they could care less when it comes to the safety of their shipments. Yeah, that's their union for you. . .USPS and FedEx is usually cheaper and all of my packages that come via them arrive in better shape.
Even the UPS Store is incompetent when you have them package something "professionally". My current Miraphone was package by the UPS Store and the idiots failed to place the mouthpiece in the holder inside the case! It was just floating around which caused some damage to the front of the bell. The only reason UPS covered the repairs was because it's guaranteed through the UPS Store.
Rant over. . .

Re: tuba received
Just a FYI on a Greyhound package express:
They have updated their website for tracking packages....however, if you currently use the site with a tracking #, you get an 'OOPS'--nothing shows. I called them, and they are still working on the site, but if you call the tracking checking #- 1-800-739-5020, and give them the tracking number, they can track the package, or at least say if currently on route.
I had my shipper send out a MTS hard case of mine filled with bubble pack, tape, my 'how to pack a tuba instruction sheet with pics,' and a bell protector cone'--it was picked up by a shipping company, delivered to Greyhound locally, and is en route to the NorthWest, where it will be picked up at the Greyhound terminal and delivered to a person's house. That person will pack a tuba I am acquiring per my instructions, call me, I'll call my shipper, and he'll call the NorthWest local shipper who will pick up the tuba and deliver to that Greyhound station there, and it will be sent back to me via bus--all prepaid by me. The 'Dog Rules!'
