WTB: larger lead-pipe for VMI Neptune (rotary)

Post by barry grrr-ero »

Subject line says it all. My Neptune came with just the small lead-pipe. I'd like to experiment with the larger one. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Speak to Bob Tucci, he sorted me out with one.

All the best.

Warning -- it might not quite be "plug and play" to fit a leadpipe from another s/n of Neptune to yours. They are all fitted in the factory individually, and the placement of the braces is slightly different on each horn. Or so I was told last year about my Neptune, where the pipe s/n's mismatched and one pipe fit perfectly and the other was a very tight fit.

If it doesn't fit well, I'd take it to a tech and have them make it so. Any extra tension in the leadpipe is going to be a bad thing.

I had the same experience as Bort. My large leadpipe was supposedly fitted to that instrument but it was still a bit of a struggle to get it installed and get the screws set.

I would plan on a trip to the repair doctor regardless once you acquire it.

FWIW - Of all the Neptune players I talked to about it, I am pretty sure every single one of them preferred the medium pipe.

Thanks for the warning. My Neptune is in the shop now, as I'll be away for almost a month. Once the pipe arrives, I'll take it straight on over. The seller has made an offer for me to return it if it doesn't work out. Unless it's a bad fit, I'll probably keep it.
