After reading some other posts like the one about what are the warning signs in a tuba that's for sale (thank you bloke for starting that conversation!), and the number of posts by people that like these horns, this one is no longer for sale.
I really do like the mechanical and quality aspects of the horn - fit-finish, 2-3 in tune, and the thickness of the metal. It's also a conversation starter in my area since it appears very few people here have ever seen one! I am going to change out the receiver for a "real" tuba receiver and continue to enjoy this horn.
This is a circa 1974 Besson BBb 3 valve compensating tuba. Serial # 565899. I bought it last year from John Robinson off of eBay. It was restored just prior to my buying it. It comes with an old beat up but serviceable Yamaha hard case and a new Altieri gig bag. It came with a King Sousaphone receiver installed and so it holds American standard sized shank mouthpieces. The valves and slides all work as expected. I've added a Wessex gutter. It plays well and the low range seems pretty powerful to me.
I'm asking $3200.00 or best offer. I'm not opposed to shipping the horn, but it would be a new thing for me. Based on what I'm reading here Greyhound is a popular choice. The tuba is in Round Rock, Texas - just north of Austin.
