A few months ago when it looked like I was going to have an interesting chamber music opportunity, I ordered this Mack Brass 420 CC tuba. This is not a regular part of the Mack line, but Tom was good enough to order it for me as a special.
Unfortunately that ensemble did not come to be. I’ve kept the tuba up to now, because it is enjoyable to play. And yet at the end of the day it just sits in the house. Being a player and not a collector of tubas, I’m selling it now.
As you can see, it references the 4-valve Yamaha 621 CC, and as you would expect, it plays like one. No need for any alternate fingerings or dramatic pulling and pushing.
I’ve mentioned on TN before that it has the best aligned, best finished tuning slides I’ve ever seen on an Asian tuba. They are better than a few much more expensive, non-Asian tubas I’ve owned. Someone who is super sensitive to such things might be able to find a problem, but as far as I can tell the slides are perfect. The valves themselves are fast and easy. I’ve replaced the original springs with Yamaha baritone springs.
Of course, the silver finish is not absolutely pristine. There are the usual rubs and minor scratching that you get on a tuba in the first few weeks.
$1850 plus shipping, preferably by Greyhound. I live four miles off I-65 in north Alabama, around an hour south of Nashville, and you’re welcome to pick it up or play test it, or I could meet you within a hundred mile radius.

I'm still going to sell this tuba, but you've got a little time to decide. My big horn just revealed a problem that is going to take a little while to sort out, so I'm going to be playing this in the meantime. I hope it won't take over a week.

>_> If I would have known about this model I probably would have bought this instead of the 410 (modeled after the Miraphone 186) a little while ago from Tom but didn't see it on his site. I've played around on the Yamaha 621 CC and really enjoyed it. good luck with sale!

As I've said, this tuba is not on Tom's site. It was a special order. As to what else is not on his site, you'll have to take that up with him. This is a good tuba, though. I'd be glad for you to buy it.
