Right now, as in finishing it while writing this, Amaro di Toscana, an Italian herbal liqueur. It's decent ... sort of heading in the direction of cough syrup, with a distinctly bitter edge, but reasonably balanced. A most appreciated gift.

On a very different note, after submitting this I will go and chase it with a small amount of a delicious mezcal, Pierde Almas espadin. Most expensive bottle I've ever bought, and maybe the best value. I used to think, since tequila is a type of mezcal, I can get mezcal more economically in the form of tequila. Oh, no. I am sorry for thinking that. Tequila is good for making a margarita. Mezcal is for drinking straight, in a moment when you can appreciate the rich complexity of this spirit, and of course I'm talking about an artisanal mezcal like Pierde Almas, Del Maguey, Marca Negra, Wahaka, Ilegal ... nothing like tequila, I assure you.

I need to start drinking Almond Milk instead of the cow stuff, for a variety of reasons.
Aldi had regular, vanilla, and sweetened vanilla.
I got the regular about a week ago.
Holy crap, that was the worst tasting stuff I ever had!!!
I have been trying to put down a half glass every day this week.
I have reached the point where it is almost palatable.
My wife picked up a carton of vanilla almond milk (unsweetened) this week.
When the puke stuff is gone, I will try that and see if it is any better.

Personally do not like the vanilla flavored one bit, we'd occasionally get it by bitterly regretted accident. We bought almond milk for a few years, not so much for drinking a glass of the stuff (?) as for putting on dry cereal etc.

Now I get hulled hemp seed, in bulk, and make hemp milk from that. You probably wouldn't like the taste of that either, but it's very nutritious, and there's no guar gum or carrageenan or whatever other weird additives. We have a heavy duty blender, don't know how well a regular Osterizer or whatever would hold up.

It isn't good, but the unsweetened Vanilla almond milk is tolerable. It definitely goes down easier than the plain stuff.

Tonight it is an Ill Tempered Gnome from Oakshire Brewery (Eugene). Last night, a Bad Santa (Pacific City) assisted me in delivering the Christmas Turkey to the table. Christmas Eve it was eggnog with Captain Morgan Spiced Rum. Tis the season.

Grain Belt

Not bad, but also not great. Its like the Minnesota version of Schaefer, aka "the beer to have when you're having more than one."

Two of the local favorites around here are Summit, with a big variety, and Surly, of which I've only tried one that was a little too hoppy for my tastes. One my personal favorite places to go is Granite City. They have good food and have the microbrewery right there in the restaurant with some fantastic beers.

I haven't been to Granite City yet, will have to check that out -- thanks!

Grain Belt is what it is, and was what I expected it to be. Fun to try the local cheap stuff once in a while. Summit and Surly are both great, I've known and liked them for quite a while when we would be out here to visit family. I agree, the Surly is a bit too hoppy, but it depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Side note -- I forgot that Schell's owns Grain Belt. A few years ago, my wife's parents took us on a day trip to New Ulm to visit the Schell's brewery. Cool small town with a strong German heritage. The brewery tour was fun, and the hospitality room was extremely hospitable at the end of the tour. It's good, traditional German-style beer. I probably want to like it more than I actually do, but I do like it. Not to mention, going on a brewery tour and drinking a lot of beer is a pretty sweet visit with the in-laws!

A margarita on the rocks with salt alongside of a chicken 'wet' burrito at Hacienda in Evansville. I just finished with a pre-NABBA concert at The University of Evansville. The test piece is "Kingdom of Dragons". Since the judging next weekend in Fort Wayne is 'blind' ... I cannot tell you what our 'elective' piece is.
