The Early American Tuba Lecture & Demo-Boston, Dec. 5, 2016

Post by bisontuba »

Hi-
I will be giving a talk on the early American Tuba Monday morning at 11AM on December 5th at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), Boston, Mass. I will also demonstrate a Tuba made by a Graves and Co. for the Lawrence Brass Band. Three of the MFA's low brass collection will be shown and talked about....a Graves Over The Shoulder Bb Bass, a Gilmore, Graves & Co. upright Eb Bass, and a Bass Helicon in Bb with Allen valves by Hall & Quinby. In addition, trumpet player Chris Belluscio will join me in playing two duets for keyed bugle and ophicleide. I will play the Graves /Lawrence tuba on each and Chris will play one on a Graves Winchester keyed bugle and other on the MFA's Graves/Col Colt's Armory Band Over The Shoulder Cornet. Darcy Kuronen, Pappalardo Curator of Musical Instruments will accompany me on keyboards when I preform the Sachse Concertino for Eb trumpet on the Graves/Lawrence tuba. It should be a fun and hopefully interesting lecture. Would love to meet any Tubenetter's after the 1hr presentation. Hope to see you there!

I'd love to attend, but I'm 2700 miles away. It would be great if you could post your session on YouTube.

I'll have to ask MFA if that is allowed. Tnx.
