Greetings to the Tuba World
Here is a CG Conn 1910 Tuba Serial Number 120592.
The company markings are clear on the bell.
I believe it is an Eb Tuba.
The bell is 14” wide and the bell is removable.
The horn is 36” tall by 14” wide.
This is one of the earliest Recording Bell instruments
It is in the original case. It has very few dings and scratches.
The values work and have just a bit of green on the inside.
There is no rust nor funky overpowering smell.
There are two mouthpieces with these markings
one has the marking stamped Conn L and the other 58.
There is a lyre and a cleaning rod. In the case weight is 25lb’s.
History:
My friend found this tuba recently as he was cleaning out his fathers basement in Durango Colorado. Colorado is a very dry climate, so the tuba and case are in great shape (old cars survive well in this climate too).
As a teenager, his grandfather bought this tuba and played it his home town of Nachitoches, Louisiana then continued playing when he moved to Margaret, Texas.
The tuba ended up in Durango, Colorado in his sons basement in the 1960’s and now his grandson (my friend) found it an wants to sell it.
If anyone has information on this tuba or in fact can tell me exactly what it is, I would sure appreciate it. I have communicated with Lee Stofer, the Tubameister, who said in all the years that he has been dealing with tubas, has never seen one of these and has helped me determine that it is as listed above. He suggests it is rare and has historic significance.
I would hope someone would like to put it in their collection, enjoy restoring it to play condition, and breathing new life into. I am pricing this at $1200 plus shipping or OBO.
