FS 4 Valve F helicon Sold

Post by Chuck W »

For sale is a Stowasser 4 rotary valve F helicon. Lee Stofer reassembled it about five years ago. It does have old style linkages that work fine. New clock springs were installed on all four drums this last month. Bell dia. Is 11.5 inches. Bore is @810. Lee told me the bore when I bought it. I am working from vague memory. I used the horn to play in a funeral band. It worked great. I am going to use a BBb Cervany from now on so this one has to go.. The receiver is for bass trombone shank. I have 2 bloke solo shanks I will include with horn. This helicon is very light to carry and well balanced. The ergonomics of the valves are excellent.

Shipping will be extra to selling price from Mnpls MN.

Price $2400

Question -- were you playing this out front of US Bank stadium last week with a small group? I saw a group packing up as the football game wad starting up, and didn't get a chance to say hi.

This is a nice vintage instrument, and a rather rare one at that. Cerveny still makes an F helicon, but I believe that Stowasser or Stowasser's Soehne have not been in business for a very long time. If you want to own and play one of the finest antique F-tubas out there, contact Chuck - he'll probably be willing to negotiate a little, too.

Is the fourth valve 2+3 (two whole steps)?
American sailboats, airplanes, banjos, guitars and flutes ...
Italian motorcycles and cars ...
German cameras and tubas ...

I am visiting Lee Stofer this week or next. The helicon will go to his place unless some one buys it here. Of course I will add Lee's commission to the price of the horn. On the other hand you will have Lee's reputation of superb service and a choice of other helicons Lee is preparing for sale. I would not take this action if I was not sure after 17xx visits to my ad and no sale I am selling in the wrong place. If you want it please contact me. Happy holidays to everyone.

Hey Everybody.

I got sick instead of going to Lee's place. Helicon is still here. Besides being to sick to get out of bed the computer died a quick death this week. NO there was not a new one wrapped up in a box any where either. I'm back now. Open for business. Ready to sell.

bump. Anybody with New Year bonus ready to buy? I know all ya all like to look at it. Maybe it would look better at your house? Another bonus of using this horn is because of it's unique look If there is a TV camera around you will be on the news that night. Just saying if that is your thing.
