Re: Schilke C in Victoria, BC
Wrong picture perhaps? Neither a CC, nor a 4 valve instrument.

Looks right to me:
I'm fuzzy on the history, but I think these had something to do with Chuck Dallenbach, and eventually morphed into the Yamaha 621 somehow.

I have to agree with the Hat, here. That appears to be the 621 F. Wrap is not that of the CC and you can see the fifth rotor in the leadpipe.bort wrote:Looks right to me:

Yep, you can see the 5th valve in the leadpipe, and only the 621 F has a 5th valve. I guess I haven't been around long enough, but I thought Schilke only did mouthpieces, not horns. The picture is certainly a Yamaha YFB-621 though.

Re: Schilke C in Victoria, BC
Well how about that.
Schilke did make a few one-off tubas -- I believe an F for Arnold Jacobs, and a CC for Chuck Dallenbach. They never really took off as production models for whatever reason, but I believe they became the basis for the Yamaha tubas.

Re: Schilke C in Victoria, BC
In 1978, while staying at the Y across from Shilke's shop between circuses, I got to try a four valve silver top banger C that they had built. Don't know if it was the only one they ever made but I liked it a lot.Ed

Soooo.....is it still the wrong picture for the ad though? Because it's certainly got five valves in the photo... I'm just curious. And now I know Schilke made horns too! Cool beans.RON JASPER wrote:I played it, it is a four piston valve CC Schilke!

It may be the wrong picture, the seller is not a player, and as I recall now, the leadpipe was on the other side.

My advice is for you all to ignore the photo, just contact Sharon if you are interested. I live near Victoria and would be happy to help anyone who is interested in this unique horn.
