How would you describe most tuba solo records in a single sentence? Here is my attempt:
Mostly fantastic players performing kinda crappy obscure tuba literature or the same old six warhorses in inappropriate acoustics with expensive tubas to misplaced microphones for labels I never heard of and sold to university tuba students who are trying to learn one of the selections for a masterclass or recital.

Re: Tuba solo records
Like almost all solo recordings: often entertaining, amazing, brilliantly executed, and inspiring for a time, but ultimately boring.
JP/Sterling 377 compensating Eb; Warburton "The Grail" T.G.4, RM-9 7.8, Yamaha 66D4; for sale > 1914 Conn Monster Eb (my avatar), ca. 1905 Fillmore Bros 1/4-size Eb, Bach 42B trombone

Re: Tuba solo records
I would totally agree, if it weren't for two recordings:
Sam Pilafian's "Travelin' Light; and
Pat Sheridan's "Bon-Bons"
Guaranteed to make you either smile or faint, depending on your level of appreciation...
