4-valve contras
do any exist? or are they so heavy that no one bothers to make them, let alone play them?

Do you mean "contras" as in Contrabass bulges pitched in G, or do you mean "contras" as in slang for BBb marching tubas? If you mean the latter, there are several 4 valve marching tubas. King System Blue and Kanstul to name a couple.

I meant BBb. Those System Blue tubas look beautiful, thanks. I'm guessing they cost about $8,000 new?

The Kings that Phantom had in the early 2000s were a 3+1 set-up with the fourth in the left hand. I went to the audition camp in 2006 and can't say that I liked that grip very much at all... but they sounded good!

System Blue branded instruments are no longer made by King. The Eastlake made former SB50 is now the King K50, and it is the instrument on which the Blue Devils perform.
The current SB50 that the Blue Devils sell as part of the System Blue series is made by JinBao.
