Tuba and Flute Duet Suggestions

Post by tylerferris1213 »

Hi everyone! My fiancee is having her senior recital next spring, and she was nice enough to include her tuba-playing counterpart in the planning. I'm looking for substantial duets for tuba and flute. We COULD do a Bach two part invention, but we're looking for other pieces to weigh against that idea. It can either be the two of us or us with piano. What do you all suggest?

I've been doing a little work on the bass guitar part from Jethro Tull's "Bouree" along with a flutist I work with. If you're comfortable walking bass lines, and she enjoys a bit of extended technique, it's great fun!

Try the flute sonatas by Handel. The solo line and the bass(o) (continuo) line of the piano make perfect duets.

You may want to have a look at the repertoire on the albums of Nancy and Bertram Turetzky (composers Barney Childs, Richard Felciano, Ulfar Haraldsson, walter ross, James Marshall, and Elliott Schwartz on the one I have). She plays flute; he plays string bass.

Ben Miles Fantasy for Flute and Tuba

Aaron Johnson South City Suite

Lauren Whiteman Six Haiku (for flute and cello, but it works great on tuba)

I have an arrangement for Tuba and Flute for Marshall Tucker Band's can't you see. If you grew up in the 60's or 70's its pretty cool.

I love that song! Do you have a PDF? And I keep hearing the Ben Miles piece come up. I'll see about getting that.
