I have a sneaking suspicion that it is an Eb despite the title and description...

Certainly looks like an Eb to me. Doesn't appear to have enough bows for a BBb.

And on Boston area Craigslist, a fellow tubenetter pointed me at this listing.

https://boston.craigslist.org/nos/msg/6096880100.html

I called up and am in line on his behalf, but my way of figuring, being in line probably means we lost out.

So seeing as the pictures are all i am likely to have, this is my excuse to retatin links to admire a short while after the post gets removed from craigslist before the pictures themselves get cleaned up.

I cannot tell if the bell is abnormally large for a Buescher or it is just camera angle?

I googled 'Concord Junction Golden Redeemer Jazz Band' and they made a couple albums, one in 1966.

My guess is right after that last recording, their sousaphone player fell down a flight of stairs with his horn on and they disbanded?

Hi Folks. I'm the lucky(?) new owner of that Buescher sousa. Unfortunately it's in pretty bad shape. The first two valves move but I can wiggle them sideways in the valve sleeve, so I can't imagine they have much compression. The third valve sleeve is out of round and the valve gets stuck if I try to push it down. The horn has some major dents. The bell collar is also out of round and the bell won't fit on it. All tuning slides are stuck. Despite the dents and stuck slides, the horn would be playable if not for the valve problems, which might be very expensive to repair. I'm going to take it to a local tech to see what he thinks. It's quite possible it's beyond my budget and capabilities to bring back to life. It might be more suited to someone who can throw some free labor or a lot of money at it.

From what I read on-line, it was made in 1925. It does look unusually large for a sousa and I wonder, as someone else mentioned, if it is the jumbo model. It has a 30" bell! It looks like it has had an interesting life. I love the CJGRJB script on the bell! I immersed myself in the history of that band and emailed one of the tuba players from it. He was pretty sure that he had never played this horn but suggested I contact the leader of the band. I emailed him but have not heard back. If you want to learn more about the Golden Redeemer Jazz Band, check out this link:

http://www.sandymacone.com" target="_blank" target="_blank Sandy Macone was the leader of the band.

This is such a cool sousaphone and I would love to be able to play it someday. It NEEDS to be brought back to life. I would keep it exactly as is as far as "patina" but just free the slides and fix the valves. On the other hand, I still need a playable sousaphone right now, so I might have to let it go to help fund another horn. I can't decide. No matter what, I will probably start a topic in the repair forum to get some input from the experts!

I just joined TubeNet after lurking for a while. It's great to part of this group.

Thanks for the info. It does have a 7.5" collar. It didn't come with a goose neck and the mouthpiece is for a baritone. But those things are the least of my worries!

Jumbo Buescher Sousaphone.
The pipe that holds the original gooseneck severed so they hosed on the gooseneck with a plumbing fix. I dont see the missing part in the pictures.
Did a google search to learn more about this model, and found THIS EXACT HORN.

The Late Harv Hartman did the leadpipe modifications, and spoke about what a big sound it has. Ill try to find a link...

If anyone is still interested in that Buescher sousaphone from last year, I'm selling it for $400 obo. I was hoping I could resurrect it but it's not in the cards for me. I contacted some members of the Golden Redeemers but never got much information about it's history.
