Wessex XL bellfront tuba

Post by pecktime »

Has anyone played this beastie? It's a big BBb rotary tuba with 5 valves and an upright and a removable bell. I'm seriously considering it for my outside/ louder gigs.

I also see there's a Schiller/ jim Laabs version.

I'm not even sure if anyone has bought one of these yet. I know they're custom order from the factory only now since there wasn't a big demand for them. I'd like to try one, though.

There are several out there with good feedback from customers on how they play and tone, but some people find the XL rather heavy. I believe we have one lacquer XL in our Michigan store.
