You should also try to attend the Big Brass Bash this summer: http://www.hpnwbbb.org/.

I know for a fact that BSU, right in your backyard, hosts the local MTNA competitions. If you are chosen from there, you go to state, regional, national, etc. You can be entered if your private teacher is a member of the organization, IIRC.

I second the Bash, and you are always welcome to travel to other tuba conferences and participate, right?

MTNA is the Music Teachers National Association: http://www.mtna.org.

BTW, At the Big Brass Bash, you will not only get to hear and play with some of the best tuba and euphonium artists in the Northwest; but also this year's two guest artists Velvet Brown and Matt Tropman.
