BRITISH BRASS BAND TUBA.

Post by eeflattuba »

At this years Yorkshire regional brass band championships held in England today a tuba player, Shaun Crowther from the Grimethorpe Colliery Band won the best instrumentalist prize. A real accomplishment since there are 13 bands competing and some serious talent competing in the heart of the british brass band world.

As this particular contest just ended,no. From time to time a recording of a particular performance, particularly when they play at the royal albert hall for the nationals, will show up on my facebook feed.

He's Shaun Crowther, veteran of many bands and an excellent player and comedian! He plays in Orchestras round the North of England too and teaches at some Music Colleges, but is mainly a brass band player.

Roger Bobo once told John Fletcher that the best tuba in his collection was a Besson (B&H) 3+1 Eb, but that - unfortunately - he couldn't use it for anything. I don't know, . . . seems to me that these fine British players are able to use them for EVERYTHING!

Actually, Bobo did use his 'eefer' in a recital for the Hindemith sonata - sounded great, too. Didn't he put a Besson bell on one of his 184's?

I often wonder why Americans are too uptight to act silly. It's one of the things I like best about some European groups.
