That's a beautiful horn! Too bad I just recently purchased one.

If shipped, I hope he doesn't just put it in its "flight case" (regular hard case) and send it on its way...It will be damaged. At the end he absolves himself of responsibility for shipping damage.

I read that too, and that's all fine and dandy here on Tubenet, and if you advertise and sell locally (ie. Craigslist) but if I were the seller of the horn I would familiarize myself with the paypal and eBay return policies and refund policies.

If I (as an ebay customer) were to received a tuba that is damaged and I bought off of eBay, I would contact the seller to fix it and a "not my problem" response would lead to me filling a claim. (ie. I received an item that does not match the seller's description.)

Since Paypal does have access to the sellers bank account and credit cards, and there's probably so legal mumbo-jumbo that we sign authorizing them to do this, I'd wouldn't be surprised if they can go back in your account and take back the money.

I think it depends who packs it... I'd you do a terrible job, then drop it at UPS, that doesn't seem like a good situation.

But if you pay UPS for them to pack it "professionally" (which to me just says that they are accepting full insured responsibility), then it should be on them as soon as you sign off possession to them.

Maybe? Who knows!

Ooh, I wouldn't bet a quarter on that!

Note that the auction says "Will arrange for local pickup only (no shipping)." So it's moot, in this case.

Except this part in the ad text contradicts thatL
Shipping:

At the current time, I ship only to locations within the USA and by Greyhound so costs are not high for you. This tuba is big and weighty. BUT if you prefer another more costly shipping service as FedEx or UPS we can talk too but you will need to pay for It.

Pick up is aviable too and FREE (and higly encouraged).

Shipping cost to be determined by your location.

Payment is by PayPal (friends and familly if possible)

Payment in 7 days.

I won't usually send an invoice, because the total depends on your shipping costs.

There is no grace period beyond the 7 days if I haven't heard from you.

Other questions? Email me anytime.

Sold as is, no returns. After the tuba is left in the shipping office, It becomes possession of the buyer.

Dare I say that the seller doesn't really understand ebay. (ie. the contradictory shipping instructions and the paypal mention of friends and family).

Yes, never ever ever use friends and family to purchase a horn online either on TubeNet or eBay or Facebook Marketplace. If it gets lost, stolen, damaged etc..you will have ZERO recourse with PayPal to get your money back. The only time you can do this is if you are face to face meeting someone personally handing them the horn and you want to save the fees after they agree to accept it's condition. I'm surprised eBay doesn't flag the guy for that statement in his ad.

so for what I read some of you guys are just assuming he will not take appropriate measures to ship the tuba appropriately, I know Jose and he is a great professional in his country and a very serious one I would say. Also I would add the fact that you're assuming he will not be responsible if something serious was to happen a bit insulting, I think he has done business here with other people with no issues at all. I think he would really appreciate your advices but it is coming out to me like you're just bashing on him without even knowing what is happening and his situation.

Well, the auction ended some time ago, but ... the comments are mostly based on the auction as presented on ebay. We read what was there. I think that's the only fair thing to do - we can't really make it about personalities, we're out here on the Internet.
