I think that's the new 40k that came out a while ago. So, yes, seems to be a 20k with 4 valves, but called the 40k

It is a rare horn. That would be the all brass version of the 24K, which is the 4 valve fiberglass. It even has the old style metal shoulder pad and old style bracings on the leadpipe instead of the round ones made today, mother of pearl finger buttons, and all the bracings throughout are old style. Everything on this horn screams it was made in the 60's. I know they didn't make many of either model and not sure if they activity promoted this model, but they did make them for a brief time together. A certain school in Arkansas still has a few of these in their marching band. Super cool.

Do we know for a fact that they don't ever use that engraving any more? That thing sure doesn't look like it's been around long. MSRP over $10K.

It is the same guy. Might be able to get him to throw in the mouthpiece for free! the $250 is trivial relative to the $4500 asking price for the 40K or whatever it is.

Don't forget that Harvey Hartman made at least one 20K into a four valve version.

Might be the same guy selling this Conn Chief.
Is the Cheif rarer than the Chief?

If you write to correct his spelling, talk to him about "it's" while you're at it.

Wow!
It's definitely not the new 40K. The 4th valve wrap on the new ones are different. This one is wrapped like the original 40K (long stroke valves). This is quite exciting. Never seen nor heard of this model. So, cool.
Even with more fingering options, I bet you the C in the staff is still flat. :D
How is it in such good condition?

These were made alongside the large bore fiberglass 4 valve 24K for a couple years. They're not in any catalog I've seen as Conn didn't really promote these models. Super rare! I want it! Keep coming back to look at this horn.. But I just don't need two 4 valve sousas. Yes that valve section is the exact same layout as the old style 40K but with short strokers. If money was no option...!!!
