Finally got my hands on an unbranded Dr. Young style mouthpiece. I guess i'm playin' it with an Olds 3 valve front action. Though it being parade season, more often than not, i stick it in a sousaphone, of which these days i got a small bell Martin which is way too good for the likes of me.
Thanks for playing!

I wish they did!!
no, im pretty sure Texas schools got grant money for new tubas.
Trinity got 3-4 Mira 1291
and Bell got 2-3 Mira 186
since I became first chair, first rights lol
Personally i've played both, and I like the 186 better. At that point, its a competition between very slight, customized differences, not inherent problems with either tubas
I would put a good signature here, but i dont have one, so this will make do.

Well, I am glad to hear that the sun still rises in the East, and that your parents haven't gone daft and abandoned their values! And I'm glad that all your hard work has landed you in first chair with a choice of new tubas. I'm sure that it won't be that long before you have a tuba of your own, but it seems like for now you are set! :D :D :D
Best Wishes,

Wessex Berg F tuba - Monette PRANA 94 F & RT 64
Wessex Wyvern CC - Monette PRANA 94 & Stofer/Geib
Wessex York Presence 6/4 CC - Monette 94, Stofer/Geib & Wessex Nickles
Wessex Cimbasso - Doug Eliot (Custom) & Wessex CB [In some cases, the Sidey Classic Helleberg works well on the cimbasso when I want a monstrous Hollywood-type sound in a large orchestra.]

Bear in mind there are subtle difference between these pieces.
I will say that I use the Monettes most frequently. The RT 64 and the Stofer/Geib, for me at least offer just a bit lighter weight to the sound, as does the Nickles.
Also, for me, the Monettes have a rim that is quite comfortable for doing a long gig. I'm 71 and muscle mass in the chops is diminishing with age. The Monette is a very efficient mouthpiece. I've had the two of these for about 6 years and went on a mouthpiece safari so as to make an informed comparison, but I kept coming back to the Monette.

Hi,
Just a quick question: do you know where to get info re: Monette tuba mouthpieces? I looked on the website but there isn't any info (aside from pictures) I could find on measurements for the tuba pieces.
Thanks,
Pete

Loud 7 with almost all of my tubas, helicons, and Sousaphones except for my Wessex BBb Tornister - for that one, a Conn Helleberg seems to work a bit better.

Bloke 2pc Symphony - HBM2 rim - Rudy 3/4 C
PT82 - Alex 155 F
PT70 - Alex 163 C

I will echo the sentiments bort made: Things change, I think personally my tastes in what I am looking for. For example: The Rudy/Symphony pairing is out of need to play a demanding quintet piece on an orchestra concert. What had worked before with the Stofer Geib with its lavish tone and even intonation were no longer acceptable do to some squirly areas in the register. The Blokepiece afforded to me great articulation with no loss of intonation. The color changed slightly, and I'm willing to take that trade. I am glad I tried the combo, as I had purchased the Bloke Symphony for the Alex 163 years prior. I keep about 20+ MPs around, a few I let go I wish I had kept!
