I like ouzo a lot better than the slivovitz you get in the Serbian etc. scene, which ranges in quality but I seem to have missed out on the good stuff. Ouzo in my experience is palatable even if nothing fancy. Kind of like retsina - no point in doing that with a fancy vintage, but a great way to drink cheap white wine.

I picked up the lager variety pack from Sam Adam at Costco last Sunday. Some good ones in there. An imperial black lager and a double Pilsner are the favorites so far.

I got to Knoxville this afternoon. Went down and had dinner, talked with some tuba players, one of whom was already a friend and two more who should have been. When I got back to my room, the hotel had sprung for a cheese and fruit plate and a bottle of not half bad cabernet sauvignon. So I'm drinking a glass of cab right now.

My grand-daughter sent me some tea from Japan that I am drinking right now. She says the Japanese name means "good job" or "you're doing good work". I wonder how they knew?

A few years ago, I got dragged by the Mrs. to a charity event, for which she had been invited, as a thank you for designing some t shirts and brochures for them. I thought it was just some low key shindig, but it was actually very fancy, and all high end stuff, including every Johnny Walker, in any quantity you desired (drink more, bid more on the auction items, I guess). Heckuva gift from Mrs. Bloke. :)

Merry Christmas!

The local liquor superstore had a sampling last weekend including a grapefruit soda and tequila combo.

Tasted like Spring!!

Reminded me of mixing cheap vodka with Franks Grapefruit soda and sneaking it into a Phillies game at the Vet!!

A while ago, Bloke said the best Tennessee sipping whiskey is George Dickel While Label. I second that. It truly is smoother and better tasting than JD Black Label. Thanks for the advice Bloke.
