hard case for a Willson 3400

Post by Jess Haney »

Hey Tubenet,

I was wondering if anyone has purchased a hard case for their Willson 3400 or 3200 F? I have looked at SKB and MTS but I do not know what size case fits the best.

When I posed this question to Willi Kurath, he recommended a Jacob Winter JW 995. This is what I use for my Willson 3400.

I wish I had bought one for my Willson 3400. I am using a Walt Johnson case for mine which is nice and unfortunately no longer made but they are heavy and do not roll very well. Those DEG cases I think might have been made in Brazil?
JCRaymo, I own your old Willson 3500 CC. The case is a beast, very similar to the Hirsbrunner hard cases with wheels I've seen over the years. There is a small tag on the inside that reads, "GWW," which I'm sure many are familiar with. I believe they are made in Costa Rica. The case has held up superbly over the years.
I also bought a case for my 3200. It is one of the amp felt-covered trapezoids sold by the Tuba Exchange. I believe they told me it was their standard size for the St. Petersberg tubas, and it fits the 3200 like a glove. I see that Tuba Exchange now carries the "Grundorf" cases . . . but I'm sure they have cases that will fit the St. Pete and WIllson 3400/3200.

Good Luck!
