I recently won a local instrument competition which will allow me to get an F tuba. I think the organization is willing to spend around 4-5k on a new or barely used horn for me. What's the best horn for me right now? I'm a senior in high school deadset on doing a performance degree. The organization suggested a Dillon horn (first link), but I've heard great things about BMB's J-445 (links 2-3)

I'm excited to get a bass tuba, let me know what options are best for me right now.
Thank you!

Re: Getting an F tuba
If Norm Pearson still has his B&S Symphonie for sale, and you've got a small amount extra/can negotiate him down a touch, then you'd end up with a tuba of a lifetime! Not one to be upgraded, but one for keeps. Not new/nearly new though.

If I were you I would get your hands on a nice Cc tuba before venturing into bass tuba territory. Where do you intend to study? A lot of schools have F or Eb tubas you can use while in undergrad. I would hold off until you have time to learn bass tuba and try some before you buy one. I would also talk to your professor to hear what they recommend.

Probably should have indicated that I already play on the Eastman EBC 632.BBruce107 wrote:If I were you I would get your hands on a nice Cc tuba before venturing into bass tuba territory.
