Only the youth groups. Scores for the adult groups will be around noon tomorrow. There were 37 bands this year, so instead of being an evening and a day, the contest is two full days and a morning. Second section and Championship test pieces played Friday (18 bands). Saturday was Youth Open, Youth First, and Youth Championship (first year they've split Youth into 3 sections instead of two), and Third and First sections finished out the day. One band was a no-show, so there were 18 bands today, too. Championship choice pieces will start at 8:30 Sunday morning (8 bands allowed 35 minutes each), finish around noon, and then the adult results will be announced.

Youth results were announced today:

Youth Open [no test piece]
A Avon HS Brass Choir (#3)
B Triangle Youth Academy Brass Band (#2)
C Fountain City Youth Band (#1)

Youth First
A Triangle Youth Brass Band (#1; only one band but quite good)

Youth Championship
A Watson Brass Band (#2) [Triangle's top youth group]
B Fountain City Honor Band (#1)

Triangle and Fountain City each sent 3 youth bands and one adult group; one of Fountain City's youth groups played in Third section.

Several of the youth bands were surprisingly good. The YouthChamp bands could have done very well in Second Section, and maybe in First (though the quality of the adult First bands this year was amazing). There were great solos everywhere all day, but my favorite solo of the day was by an Eb tubaist in the Watson youth band.
