Sold- Marzan/B&M 4v slant-rotor BBb with semi-hard case

FS: Marzan/B&M 4v slant-rotor BBb with semi-hard case

I am listing this tuba for my friend Ed. He and I play tuba together in concert band.
Ed is focusing on smaller tubas for now, and needs to thin out his stable a bit to stay out of trouble with the boss.
I have known him for over ten years: he is ex-law enforcement and a very decent, trustworthy fellow.
Contact him here on TubeNet through user name "gvtuba".

Marzan/B&M 4v slant-rotor BBb with semi-hard case, $3500 plus $200 shipping by Greyhound Package Express anywhere in the CONUS.

This is a Marzan brand tuba with Fred Marzan's patented slant valve design and upward facing "tune any note" main tuning slide. (This is the slide with the T-shaped grab handle and threaded adjustment rod in the photos.)
This horn was made by Boehm & Meinl in Germany for Marzan sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It was purchased from Dan "Tuba Tinker" Schultz several years ago. It has been well cared for and is in very good condition.

Four rotary valves of 0.750" bore. The lacquer finish is around 80% and still looks nice. No noteworthy dings or dents, although the bell rim is ever so slightly out of true (I never noticed this when I played it, you have to set it on its bell to see this)- see pics.
The bell is 19" diameter, and the overall height is appx. 36".

See pics at this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1vkxsi4fuyw6 ... y7oha?dl=0

Recently professionally serviced. Valves/linkages are in great shape with excellent compression.

I have played this horn on several occasions. Very solid 4/4+ size tuba with a good scale, projection and a wonderful tone that marries German bite with American color. The moderate bore blows easy both loud and soft. A large-ish 4/4 (9/8?) with a compact wrap, this is a great "do-it-all horn" for a BBb player.

$3500 plus $200 GPX shipping to CONUS. Reasonable offers will be considered.
This tuba is located in Green Valley, AZ, near Tucson, AZ.

Again, this is not my horn, but I like it and would have no problem playing it in any ensemble.
Please direct any questions or inquiries to "gvtuba" on this forum.

Thanks for looking,
Eric

I had the opportunity to play this tuba again last weekend.
I edited my comments above to reflect that it is a little larger than I remembered.
It looks and plays a little larger than a 4/4, but is easy to fill up.

Nice big bottom bow, bell throat, and bell.

These old Marzan/B&M tubas seem pretty nice. The upwards main tuning slide and slant-rotor valveset is really a great design :!: No wonder Tinker really likes these tubas. I'm sure this is a great 4/4+ or 5/4 ish 'ensemble' tuba in every way. And it was made by B&M, which became Nirschl 8)

the prospective buyer for this horn, wants a serial number for his purchase order. I'm not finding a serial number on the receiver or anywhere near the valve cluster.
Any ideas? Dan? TNFnJ?

I don't think they have serial numbers. The only serial number on mine is what Dan stamped on the cross bar or whatever the solid bar the paddles mount to. He put DTS<date he touched it> just so it had something on it.
