For what it's worth, this is my old horn and I miss it often. These Gnagey horns are highly versatile and are capable for soloing as well as ensemble - putting out more weight of sound than you would imagine for a small tuba.
Also the seller is a straight up good man! =)

GNAGEY versus GNAGEY,

I'm checking back in on my Gnagey after returning from an enjoyable Adult Band Camp Session at the
International Music Camp in ND located within the beautiful International Peace Gardens.
Whilst reading down the Market place page I happened to notice another Gnagey CC For Sale. I'd like to
do a simple comparison for those that are interested.
1) The bare bone prices are fairly competitive. $4,500 - $3,700
2) In simply comparing photos it appears that the 4 P/1R is in better condition, No bell dents.
3) One is a 4P CC and the other a 4P/1R CC with a thumb actuated rotor lever.
4) One does not have a case option, the 4P/1R has a leather gig bag; $4,500.
Leather Cronkite Gig-bags for tubas can easily push to costs of $1,000.
5) I'm centrally located so shipping is convenient and affordable. Peach sent the Gnagey to me from England in a great wood crate which will be passed on to the buyer.
6) I have a new instrument arriving in September and would very much like to see my heard thinned out by one more.

It is a great horn and needs a better home, Give a PM or call at 701-361-4635.

Here with Tundratubast, we have a hardcore tuba salesman. Thanks for comparing your Gnagey tuba for sale to mine on a public forum. Did you sell used cars before? Yeah, yours has 5 valves and mine has 4. I had Sam make it for me that way for a reason. Generally, 4 valve CC's play better than their 5 valve counterparts. Mine plays great. I don't know about yours, although I have never played one of Sam's tubas that didn't play great. Yeah, mine has some small dents and no bag. Wuddeva. Anyway, folks, there are 2 Sam Gnagey tubas for sale here. Yeah, and mine's cheaper and negotiable.

Thanks Bill, nothing wrong with supporting each others listings. You are correct, Sam's horns are great and very playable. I have never been a used car salesman, but did spend a career in sales and marketing and have never been afraid of comparing my product against the other in the field. Its a simple honest comparison based on what we both have to deal with on this site. The written word and a couple of pics.

If I had the cash, I'd absolutely snap this up. Parting with ny Gnagey a few years back is one of ny few regrets.

Man, I would kill to have a horn this good. Budgetary constraints being what they are, however. I could just barely afford the bag. lol

If this was at all different than my GR-41, it would be en route to Minneapolis already.

Or, maybe I should just buy it and squirrel it away for Bort Jr or Bort Jr Jr? I guess it'd fit in this MTS case that I have... :)

Holy **** that's a good deal. I bought mine for $4700. I played it all through university and still own it. From my experience, these horns are powerful, nimble and they have a large full sound that's great for all around usage with the exception of large orchestra or high range solo work. I've played new $7000 tubas that don't sound nearly as well or play as easily as these things do. Somebody grab this up. It is an absolute steal. If any interested buyers want to ask me anything about owning one, feel free.

Doc, The low end is exceptional based on the players ability. I'm good down to a D, Db playing as a BBb with the 5th tied open. As a BBb and the 5th tied open it desires a little more openness. As CC it speaks very well, where as the 5th use is used to extend a note. Now in the hands of a friend, Masters performance CC guy, its a monster, pedal BBb is spot on and solid. I have not mastered the true pedal pedal skills as of yet. It is a very fun capable instrument. You would enjoy it immensely.
