Replating a mouthpiece

Hi,

It's been a very long time since I have had a mouthpiece replated. I'm trying to remember if there are any difficulties inherent in the process.

Who best, to do it?

Been a long time since I had a mpc replated -- I did it thru WW&BW many years ago.

Dillon Music did a very light clean up / re-plating in gold for me for $75. Silver was $50. I'm very pleased with the results.

Gold chops is a great place, quick turnaround very affordable and they can do just the rim and cup if you want.

On the other hand, reports suggest that particularly in the $100-or-less range, any instance of a mouthpiece model may be regarded as effectively unique and irreplaceable - so its price may not be closely related to its value.

How much does the plating and attendant scouring usually change the interior dimensions, compared to the worn condition that the owner is familiar with?

That's about what I have to charge...and I did a bit more than "light clean-up" several weeks ago (former private lessons student, and didn't have the heart to to tell him that "it isn't worth it"...so I went ahead and did it), but this cost reinforces my point about the $100-or-less mouthpieces that are moderately chipped up (probably requiring a $75 - $80 job just for silver)...yes?

I agree - this was for two silver Parke Ofenlochs that were bleach-cleaned by my wife. Not $100 mpcs....

I had Dan Oberloh do a Dillon PS3 for me and he did a wonderful job. It looks and plays fantastically or at least as well as I can. I highly recommend for any work he is willing to do. Phil

If you love the MPC and it's not one you can get anymore, a custom MPC, or something like that, definitely go for it. Just be aware that the cost of replating will not add to the value.
