SOLD B&S “Symphonie” F tuba, 4+2 SOLD

Post by T. J. Ricer »

SOLD

For Sale: vintage B&S “Symphonie” F tuba. Asking $7650

6-rotor, 4+2

-Unlacquered yellow brass with Bell Kranz
-5th valve slide lengthened to modern standard flat whole-step
-“Keel” removed from bottom bow
-All valves vented (compression “pops” when you cover the vent)
-American-shank receiver
-Hand made, hand engraved (see photo)
-This is the model with 5 different valve-bores.
-Likely rebuilt at some point in the past, including some nickel plating on the valves (I don’t know when, but it looks that way)
-Valves 1-4 have model airplane linkages.

In addition to the “normal” F tuba repertoire, I have used this horn in recent seasons with the HSO for Meistersinger and Bruckner 4. Big, beautiful sound. Great intonation with the 6-valve options. It is a rotary F and feels like it in the mid-low register, but the sound a pitch are good down there. Nothing strange, just different than a piston horn.

Located in Honolulu. In an ideal world, you would take a long weekend, have a bit of a vacation, try the horn out, and, if you like it, buy a seat for it on the return flight. (And, of course, if you don’t like it, you don’t have the to buy or return it and you’re only out a trip to Hawaii!). I’ll buy you a Mai Tai either way (assuming you’re over 21).

I will ship if necessary, but it will be expensive and I will need to be paid in-full, in-advance of shipping and have the agreement that once the horn is in the shipping company’s possession, ownership has changed to you.

As always, make me an offer, the worst I can say is “no, thanks.”
