SOLD: Conn 36J w/ Kanstul Reproduction Bell

Post by shinytuba7 »

Hi all,

I am looking to sell my 1933-1934 Conn 36J with both original bell-front bell and raw brass upright Kanstul reproduction bell. This was Ken K's horn, as seen here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=74713&hilit=36j. All of the things that Ken said in his original ad are true. And to reiterate what Ken had mentioned in his post, the valves were replated and have plenty of pop. I have gotten lots of compliments on the sound and I have found the intonation very workable for such a large horn, I just realized that I am a rotor person and would like to find a solid CC rotor horn. I also miss 5 valves more than I ever thought I would.

My pictures are here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/arqg5ensl882 ... 50FLa?dl=0
There is a little bit of tarnish on the horn, as I use it almost daily, but I'd bathe and polish the body and both bells before I'd hand it to its new owner. There is some plating wear on the bottom bow and on a couple of the contact points as well. There is still the patch on the leadpipe, but it does not leak and I have been told that a replacement would not have the horn play the same. I can take a picture of the recording bell, but it needs a significant polishing unless you want to see it as it currently sits.

I would be selling it with both bells and a Pro Tec gig bag. It is the large one and it fits it quite well. It would be for $3200 for everything. I am willing to drive a considerable distance to bring it to you. The horn and I are located in Eastern CT. Shipping the two bells and the body would be much more. And shipping is out of the question. Please do not ask.

If anyone would like to come to me, I can meet you and I will lower the price accordingly.

If anyone has any question, please feel free to PM me. I will respond as soon as I can with as much accurate info as I can.

Thank you for your interest in advance and I hope you have a great one!

I would also be interested in trading it for a Shires Tenor trombone + cash or a small bore tenor + cash.

Neat tuba, and yes, a world away from a 5v rotary CC. I bet this sounds awesome in a large band.

Thanks! I definitely think so!

I definitely wanted to go to something big when I got it, but now that I've had a fair amount of time with it, I know at least a little bit what I like.

It really does. I can easily support a band of 35 and overpower them when I want to.

Bump.

I'd be happy to talk to interested parties about offers. I may be interested in a trade, so feel free to ask if it may work for me. It could be a partial trade with cash come my way. Again, feel free to offer. I would also be willing to adjust my driving distance if someone is at all interested and are farther than my original max.

Feel free to PM, as it is the best way to get in touch with me.

Bump. Feel free to message me. I will consider all offers. I would also be willing to drive a considerable distance.

I would also consider a trade for a Shires Tenor trombone.

Bump for a slight update.

I'd be willing to consider a small-bore tenor + cash as a trade for this horn. Feel free to pm with offers.
