Horn Cleaning in Michigan

Post by Kpen »

Het Tubenet, this is a question for my fellow Michiganders. Where would you suggest that I get my horn cleaned. I live in the Traverse City area and I would rather not use Marshall music due to the fact they ship it to Lansing for cleaning. I am willing to travel for quality service. Thanks!

I would recommend Meridian Winds. They’re in the Lansing area, but I was super satisfied with the quality and price when they cleaned my F tuba.

Second vote for Meridian Winds. I would have them ultra-sonic my horns every 6 months. Super quick service and very reasonable for what they did and how quickly they turned the horn around for me, I don't think I ever waited more than 24 hours. Typically, I would drop it off when they opened and picked it up at closing. Of course, I called ahead and scheduled. Plus one of the best Dunkin' Donuts I've ever had is down the street on the corner in a gas station.

Hey, glad to meet another TubeNetter from Northern Michigan! I live about an hour south of TC. Randy at Marshall's in TC has worked on many of my brasswinds and I had my sousaphone cleaned there, but he may have retired.

Ken Larson's Brasswerks in Interlochen has done fabulous work on my trumpet; there's an outside chance Ken would have the facilities to take the job and if not, he would certainly know where to inquire. Might be worth giving him a call.

Meyer Music in Grand Rapids would be another decent option if the facilities mentioned above are booked up or too far away. You will want to call them first before heading down this time of the year; they may be too busy getting the rental instruments ready.

If you're willing to travel then Meridian Winds is my choice too. Or you could just take it to Marshall Music in Lansing. They've done good work for me over the years.

Meridian is great. I've never gone myself, but Michigan Musical Instrument Service in Monroe is supposed to be great also. More brass focused.
