a long time
Started 1966 on Piano-Forte, 1970 on Cornet, 1972 for BBb Tuba, 1976 on Double Bass, 1979 for CC and 1982 on F.

1977 on a Conn 34J "Orchestral Grand"
four (full throw) valve version
I did have several years of non playing while recovering from lung problems during the late 80s-early 90s though. Lots of total years of playing although probably far fewer years of quality playing than I care to admit.
Wishing I had the drive and wisdom I have now back then or the flexibility, strength and lung power I had back then now.

31 years for me, but after high school I did go 9 years where I didn't play with an organized group. I wasn't aware of any outlets to play in my area so I just played songs by ear and played on a few books that I had. I have been playing either in brass bands, community bands and pops bands since 89.
