Screw up? How in the world do you see yourself as a screw up? I would say that if you consider yourself happy, there is no way you are a screw up.

Give yourself some credit! You are after all doing what you love now. Live in the moment, not in the past (yeah I know, even though I am young, I know how hard it is to not live in the past) and focus on what you've got now. It sounds like you have a good life.

Everyone has regrets. If you carry them with you all the time, you will never get anywhere because regrets are heavy. Live every day to its fullest and enjoy your tuba playing. That is what music is meant to be in its purest form. Also, be thankful that you DON'T have the pressure to perform as a symphony player. :)

tubafreaks 7, don't be so quick to kick your own butt when there are so many other people around who would be thrilled to do it for you.
I'm almost 64. I have worked in music and painted houses and delivered mail when pop music "burnout" happened. My wife loves me to play and the whole family encourages me.
"Regrets,I have a few,but then again, too few to mention." (Thanks Frank)
Our lives take us through so many passages we didn't plan. If you're mentally light on your feet,it can even be fun.
I should be proud at my age to have the family together and still be progressing in my music even if I get into a funk sometimes.
You sound to me to be a man who has accomplished much and is not through yet. Sounds like your son is a real player too.
Keep it up tf7

For the war-induced PTSD, check out EMDR. (you can google it.) It actually works; I've seen it in action with a friend of mine. Gets rid of the source of the nightmares, pretty quickly too. Entirely different from anything you've ever run into before. It also can fix some other stuff along the way.
