eBay: 30s vintage HN White Eb which looks like modern 1140

Post by The Big Ben »

Hi:

Here's something cheap and maybe interesting:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/254344762996?ul_noapp=true" target="_blank" target="_blank

It looks like a modern 1140 but, by seller's description and partial serial number, this looks like a early 30s vintage King/HN White Eb tuba.

It has the classic H.N. White engraving on the bell and on the 2nd valve. It is far from perfect but might be savable bt someone. No caps or buttons and I have no idea of the condition of the valve pistons and casing. If the bell was straightened out to be presentable, it could be usable. BIN @ 179.95

Yow! That's a problem!

The thing that attracted me was the engraving on the bell. That just isn't done any more. However, it may not be too much fun to play. Looks "peashooter".

I'd be interested if I could find a side-action set to paste onto it - IIRC, the bore on these little guys is around .630 or so.

That looks like the same model I'm covering to front action. The bore was 0.620 on mine.

I'll meet you half-way....it's probably .625, to be "official" (5/8").

I don't know of anyone who manufactures a front action set in a similar bore. The closest is the Conn .656 (21/32").

Haha, deal! 0.625 it is. The 0.656 Conn valveset is what I'm using for the project (but you probably remembered that). Hopefully I can get it going again now that I finished my helicon.
