Does anyone know about the approximate dates of the various engravings for the York tubas?
J.W. York
York and Son
J.W. York and Company
York - Grand Rapids Michigan
York and Sons
York Band Instrument Company
Is there a chronological order?

Thanks, Lew.
As it turns out, I am familiar with that site. I found that their references were somewhat helpful, but a little vague with regards to the actual names that would have been engraved on the horns.
While I am interested in the chronology of all of the various York engravings, I am specifically interested in this engraving:
YORK
Grand Rapids
Michigan
Does anyone know what period of time would be represented by a horn with that engraving?

I would suspect later in that period. There was apparently some variability of the label contents during the transition from the pre-1926 "J. W. York and Sons" to the post 1929 or 1930 "York Band Instrument Company." And there's no assurance that the lable spelled out the whole name. It took a while for the labels to follow the change of the corporate name. I would say that any label that doesn't have J. W.'s initials most likely follows the 1926 change of ownership.harold wrote:Well, the painted York arrived yesterday and can be dated by serial number to the 1925-1927 range.
