Tuba Duets

Post by christiantaylor »

I am looking for a tuba duet to do at my solo and ensemble festival in Florida. There are not many options according to the FBA's approved list but if you guys have any recommendations that would great. The difficulty can any level even though we are high school players. It also doesnt have to adhere to the given options on the list. Just give your best ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

Take a look at the Walter Sear Tuba Duets. There are 2 volumes. I think these are excellent and the difficulty level varies. Some are very approachable by good high school players. Others a bit more challenging. All a very listenable. Here's a link to one place to get them:

They are also available at SheetMusicPlus: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/ Just search for Advanced Tuba Duets

Mark Mordue arranged some etudes for guitar by Mauro Giuliani for 2 tubas. They aren't difficult and sound very musical.

Here's a duet version of "Air & Burree" that I put together a few years ago. I still like it and work on it with students.

Here are the Tuba Duets on the FBA approved list. It's a decent list and to be safe you should choose from these:

Mozart / Dishinger 12 Duets K 587 (any One) 2
Various / Stouffer Easy Classics For Two (any Two) 2
Devienne / Gershenfeld Four Duets, op. 82 (any 2 mvts) 4
Nielsen / Dishinger Twelve Duets, Op. 53 (any 2 mvts) 4
Sear Advanced Duets for Tuba, vol. 1 (any 2) Tuba Duet COR
Cummings, Barton Duets of the Advanced Type for Tubas (any 3 mvts)

It has been so long since I have seen most of them I can't remember much, except that the Sear duets are quite good but require good upper register control.
