It's Red Rodney's Birthday!

Post by RalphHepola »

It’s the birthday of vastly-underrated jazz trumpeter Red Rodney, born Robert Roland Chudnick in 1927. He performed and recorded with Charlie Parker and many others. Check him out!

When touring the segregated South with Parker he was listed as "Albino Red" and got away with it by singing a blues every night.
His advice to youngsters trying to learn improvisation: "The melody is never wrong."
Chet Atkins said it this way: "The melody always works."

Sounds like great advice!
