Not a dumb idea at all. Looks better than a padded toilet seat.

An excellent idea. I've used a boat seat flotation cushion for years. A great inexpensive option. 2-3 inches thick and not very compressible. A remedy for those padded sinking chairs often encountered at practice and performance venues. Also great to see over the jolly green giant when you find one in the row in front of you.

I did a five day canoe trip down the Columbia river from Portland to Astoria. Paddled all day long on the first four days. Those pads saved my bottom. Also had one on the bottom of the canoe to kneel on.

Not a BIT “dumb”! I look at them every week in Church and never realize they have major musical potential!

Good idea. I use a hard foam pad of about 3/4 inch (2 cm) build to make headstands. Seems to be from a yoga or gymnastic store. They also have yoga bricks in hard foam, in case you need to lift the instrument 3,4.5 or 6 inch. Very. Light, fits into my gig bag a d does the job.

Good idea if you use a chair. I have used a drum throne for the last 14 months, and I recommend it highly. Always the right height, nicely padded to protect That Sensitive Area, and along with a tuba rest, you have The Ultimate Playing Position (tm).bloke wrote:I have seen those weird (expensive) round things upon which people sit on - in otherwise-hard chairs during rehearsals...
I could use another 1/2" of elevation in many chairs (possibly the COMPRESSED thickness of this thing...??), and (sure) the comfort would be a bonus.
@ 4 bucks, has anyone bought one of these, slid it in their Cronkhite-bag's music pouch (or placed it over their finger-paddles/valve-stems for extra in-bag protection), and used it for their tush, rather than for their knees?
HEY!I could store my valve oil in the handle cut-out.

I use something called a gripper chair pad. Adds a little elevation, feels better, and doesn't move around. It's basically just a chair pillow so it also rolls up nicely and fits in the bell when it is time to go. Adds very little extra weight to the case and in a pinch can be used as a practice mute.

After struggling with chairs of the wrong height, angle and such, my solution is a foldable keyboard bench. I found mine really cheap at a thrift store, but even new ones aren’t that expensive; depends on how you value a back and backside that doesn’t hurt. Not as portable as a cushion, but a more certain solution to a comfy seat.
