Carl Vail passed away on February 15, 2020. An icon in the the music world. He was a 20-year Euphonium Soloist with the U.S. Naval Academy Band, another 20-year career as Region Manager and Artist/Clinician with Besson Brasses, and then several more years as Adjunct Instructor of Low Brass at the University of Southern Colorado.
He was a fantastic euphonium and trombone with many symphony orchestras, concert bands and brass bands, and also performed with many performers in the popular field.
I meet him 10 years ago when he arrived as a guest to the Helotes Community Band. We performed next to each other in many community bands and a brass band in the San Antonio area.
We would talk about life and music. He would share his knowledge in performing, and his many exploits in performance.
I will miss him.

In the mid-1950's I studied with EVAN Vail, horn player in the 20th Century Fox orchestra. I wonder if your Carl Vail is at all related to Evan. Sometimes good musicians come from the same family. Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, for example.
