PT88 and Warburton Jacobs J1/J2/J3

Post by TubaTodd »

I play on a PT88+ and it works pretty well. I recently looked at Terry Warbuton's website and noticed that the "J series" of mouthpieces comes in a variety of sizes. According to the website the J2 is the same diameter of the PT88 (33.5 mm).

Can someone with experience with these mouthpieces chime in? I hope and pray that Mr. Warburton is able to rebuild physically and emotionally from his tragedy at his shop.

The J series are nice mouthpieces.

I have a "J3H", which is the biggest of the group. It is a "semi-heavy" piece, but in all reality is about as heavy as a Bach 18.

The others seemed a little too light, i.e. skeletonized.

Forgot to add:

The rim is comfortable. The closest comparison I can find is that of a Shilcke HII. Fairly thin and rounded.

Thank you for your reply. Does the J3H feel bigger, smaller or about the same than the PT88??? Since switching to a PT88, everything else feels REALLY small. The Schilke HII style rims sounds GREAT! I will have to try one once Terry is back up and running.

It has been a long time since I put my face on a PT mouthpiece, as I really am not all that fond of them, but...

The J3 feels bigger than anything else I have played. I have played a PT-50 and the J3 feels a slight (very slight) bit bigger than that. I think the real difference is in the rim, being that is allows for you to get a bt more face in the mouthpiece.
