^ As I've heard it stated, the 2165 is the tuba that Warren Deck built for himself. The 6450 is the tuba that Alan Baer built to sell to others.
BTW, was Warren's mouthpiece like a bore of 9?6 mm or something gigantic like that? It was inhuman!

Dr Young mouthpieces... Yes, I could play on them. No, I didn't like playing on them. For that matter, DY's tuba doesn't seem like my idea of a good time either, even if 7 valves (or whatever it was) is the optimal mathematical solution (or whatever)

So...
Has anyone stuck a Thor or 45slp leadpipe on a PT6? Did you like it better or did you change back?

The paper submitted is good physics. However, the models will always be ideal.
Tuba manufacturing is not a six-sigma process, particularly for professional grade horns. Prior to the import of Chinese tubas of reasonable quality, how many professional CC tubas were being made worldwide per month? 20? 50?
Personally, I’m astounded by a company like Mirafone that makes a fairly consistent product given relatively low production numbers and the amount of hand fabrication that is needed. Even with Mirafone tubas, you could go through a batch and rank them.
Basically, I can appreciate both aspects here. The idea that the acoustics are a function of the tubing expansion rate and the ability of a human to replicate it.

Before an awful war begins, allow me to offer this olive branch:
While the science is difficult and separated from the manufacture, I do find that people willing to invest the time, energy, and knowledge in trying to figure out acoustics of musical instruments very helpful, if if the science may be limited to identifying happy accidents and hopefully replicating them.

What were the mouth tube minimum diameter measurements, just for interest?
