Jeans at rehearsal??

Post by breannalynnplaystuba »

okay, so I have this director at my high school marching band that kinda sorta terrifies me.. Anyway, I dress a little differently for rehearsals. I wear Jean's and long sleeves. yea, I know that I could totally overheat since it gets to be like 90° here for most rehearsals. But I wear long sleeves to cover up my wrists and I wear Jean's cuz they're comfortable for me. Remember that director I said was scary? Well, he recently started making fun of me and teasing me for the way I dress at rehearsal in front of the whole group. And so I think that this way of dressing is normal... but like I dont know anyone else that does. but i was wondering if any of y'all had opinions on the matter?

Yes: tell your parents and have them contact your principal.
How you dress is 100% YOUR BUSINESS, unless it’s in conflict with a school dress code.
You're there for the music and you trust your director to be doing his job. Picking on you is not only childish but also falls under bullying when done by a adult.
Good luck and be strong.

If you can't talk to him directly, talk to the school administration. Maybe he thinks he's being funny of clever, and just needs to be re centers in his thinking. If you're not comfortable to talk to him yourself, go up the chain of command.

Beyond that, do your thing. If you get hot and pass out, then maybe re evaluate. But otherwise, who cares.

BTW, you must be on Jupiter if rehearsals are still happening, or happening any time soon

BTW, I think every band director I've had, ever, behaves this way to an extent. I think it's just an effort to try and connect with the kids and be sort of cool or something. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it always has to stop when the person affected says it needs to stop.

It’s nice to know that band camp in on somewhere in the USA!!

I agree you should remove the post, and also that this needs to go first to your parents. I won't comment on what you report but will say I had a band director "lend" me his jacket on a bus trip once, and then find it necessary to "look for something" in the pocket. Enough said....
