1907 Buescher Eb Tuba - SOLD

Post by Tubajug »

Greetings,

A local band director friend of mine is clearing out his "tuba room" at a house he's renting now and asked me to sell this for him. See the linked Craiglist ad for photos.

For sale is a large 1907 Buescher Eb tuba made in Elkhart, Indiana with original case. The bell is 19" across and it's about 36" tall. It's about the same size as my King 2341 but with fatter bows.

This horn was previously used by a local musician. The condition is quite good for its age (see pictures). No major dents, but there are dings and scratches, the worst is on the knuckles. From a few feet away, it looks nearly perfect. It is bright silver plated, which is in good condition. A previous owner had the silver removed on the outside of the bell (except for the engraving) and on the slide crooks and valve caps for a "two toned" look. The inside of the bell is still silver plated. The valves are worn, but still have some pop left in them. The first valve button was replaced with a King button at some point. There is a slight crease in the bell above the top branch, but I don't see any scars from previous repairs. It looks like it has been kept in very good shape over the years. See the photos for more reference on the condition.

It is marked "LP" for low pitch, but plays at modern pitch (it must have been modified at some point). The valves and slides all move freely. I gave the horn a good cleaning and replaced the felts with synthetic washers.

It plays with a nice round, buttery sound. The false tones are useable as well. ***If enough people really want me to, I can record a short video of me playing this, though my Eb fingers are still in practice-mode***

The original case is rough, but useable. The inside is purple velvet. Only two latches work, but they keep it closed. The receiver is a bit of an odd size. My standard (American) shank mouthpieces don't go all the way in and wiggle a bit, but I'm still able to play it with them like that. I'm not sure what shank size it would need. No mouthpiece is included.

Shipping would be via Greyhound (in the case, with padding inside and saran-wrapped to prevent it from opening) at the buyer's expense.

Price is $600, with reasonable offers considered. Feel free to contact me with any questions! PM or jordanhluke [at] yahoo [dot] com
