FS: Meinl Weston 2155

Post by tubacorbin »

Hi all,
For sale, I have a Meinl Weston 2155 with a 45SLP leadpipe. It is in great condition and was serviced three weeks ago for its annual cleaning. There are a few small dings, but nothing major. This tuba features very even and fast response in all registers (the low range is to die for), truly excellent intonation, and a beautiful tone with great projection and core. The metal valve guides have been replaced with plastic Delrin guides. Also installed on the instrument are Yamaha euphonium springs and Sellmansberger lightweight valve buttons. These changes make the valves much easier on the hand (especially compared to the normal Meinl Weston valves).

Bore: Valves .0.748in - 0.787in, .807in 5th valve
Finish: Clear lacquered brass
Modifications: 45slp leadpipe, Sellmansberger lightweight buttons, euphonium valve guides, Delrin valve guides
Case: Reunion Blues Gig Bag

The price is $8,000 plus shipping. Currently located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Email me at tubacorbin@gmail.com" target="_blank or send me a PM if you are interested. I will consider trades, although I'd prefer an outright sale.

Make no mistake, my Alex 163 is going nowhere.

But if Corbin had been selling this around February, it very well might have ended up in Minnesota with me. One of the few piston tubas I was still considering at the time.

I once turned down a super nice condition 2155 for really cheap, after play testing and loving it maybe 15 years ago. Never really got another chance after that. These are really nice tubas, and with the updates, I'm sure this is a killer horn.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Mike, this isn't that same one, but Joe did do the leadpipe on this one for the previous owner.

I have a 2155 story. Many years ago the Tucson Symphony tubist had one of these. Empire Brass played a concert with TSO, and the last piece was a march (don't remember which one.) So you had the entire orchestra blasting away, plus the Empire Brass (at the time their tuba player was playing an upright bell Eb and I literally could not hear him; in that venue he needed a front bell, but I digress.) During that march, the 2155 was clearly heard above all and leading the way. That tuba can PLAY with the right person behind it.
