At the place in Columbia, MD, where we went, they sold out the first theater a week before the show and added a second. The second was sold out the day of the show, and they added a third. By the time it actually got started, that broadcast was up on FOUR SCREENS.Leland wrote:They were pretty surprised last year at the size & enthusiasm of the crowds that came, too.

DCI will no longer air broadcast finals on PBS because of the fact that it is now on ESPN2.Tom Holtz wrote:The finals will air on ESPN2 this year, date and time TBD. I don't know if the usual PBS broadcasts of finals will happen again.

What was fun was coming out to the concession stand (listen to me, talking about it like it was a stadium.. lol) during breaks in the action and seeing a whole bunch of corps nerds that I've marched with.Tom Holtz wrote: By the time it actually got started, that broadcast was up on FOUR SCREENS.
I think I sat with three groups of people in two theaters over the course of the night. If they served beer, it would've been perfect.

Just ask Chris Martin, new principal trumpet of the CSO... he comes from an entire drum corps family.

Even though I was playing trombone in school, I was on the dark path to being a fan of synthesized music before I started marching.Jared wrote:Here's an activity that encourages people to play music, very effectively i might add.
Not too long after I started, my music collection began losing all the synth junk, which was gradually replaced by nearly every flavor of stuff performed by live musicians -- often in acoustic settings. From classical & modern symphonic works to metal and cool jazz, as long as there were people performing instead of computers, I enjoyed it.
The rest of the kids in corps weren't there to support a football team, get out of gym class, or anything else. They were there to perform. Simple as that.

this makes me laugh. its funny how the ignorant tend to speak so earnestly about subjects they make assumptions on. i happen to do drum and BUGLE corps, i say this because we accually use bugles. marching bands have copied drum corps in the more recent decadesand has a rich history with the american legion. when you insult drum and bugle corps you insult those veterans whom created the sport. secondly, marching band is not drum corps, and those who say that, have never done it. i happen to hate marching band with a passion, but love doing drum corps. and on a third note, my brother studied computer enginering until he "aged out" of college. that doesn't mean i know much more than to turn my computer on and off. and lastly i believe that this young man deserves a hymn.Josh07 wrote:DCI is stupid because it's over-glorified, testosterone-fueled marching band on steroids. I don't like Blast for the same reason. Nothing against any of the players... they get teamwork, companionship and character-building out of it, and that's good, but I just don't understand the extent to which some people fanaticize about it. Marching band is marching band. It's something that was designed to rally the crowds during halftime. It was never meant to become an event unto itself.
As far as the comment someone made about how I "obviously have the credentials to make a definitive statement about this"... my brother was in the Madison Scouts till ageout. Let me ask you something, how would I know what "ageout" is if I don't have credentials?
As far as my spelling goes, I say it's "PERfessional", and if anyone disagrees, they can meet me in the parking lot tomorrow night after school.
HYMN HYMN......(if you do drum corps you know)
