This Meinl Weston 6460 F tuba is a great horn. I bought it new off the floor at TMEA in 2009. It is not a tuba you will see very often in the marketplace.

This tuba is capable of producing a rich tone, and I particularly like that it has a robust lower register for an F tuba. It has a larger bore than most F tubas and is free blowing with the capability of achieving big sounds when needed.

The tuba has 6 valves and a seventh lever that pushes the second valve slide out with spring loaded retraction. The first and fourth valve slides have stops to assist performers in making adjustments for intonation.

It is bittersweet for me to part with this instrument. It is truly a special work of art in and of itself as it is a work of craftsmanship and was handmade in Germany. I was able to make such beautiful music with it, but I do not play it very often anymore, so I am glad at the idea of someone else finding joy in making beautiful music with this instrument.

I’m asking $12,500 for it.

Condition:
The tuba is in good working condition. It has some small dents, scuffs and scratches. Most of them are shown in the pictures. I can send more if desired.

Mouthpiece description:
Alan requested that we design a mouthpiece for F Tuba with the exact rim size and shape as the orchestral CC tuba mouthpiece. This ingenious design allows individuals to switch from one tuba to the next while retaining the same setup on the embouchure. The F Tuba mouthpiece has a shallower cup and smaller backbore that creates an ideal F Tuba voice. The Alan Baer Signature Model F Tuba mouthpiece is at home in a large orchestra and as a solo mouthpiece. Rim 1.295, throat .295.
