Cleveland Orchestra Tuba

Post by ubq »

Hy,

Cleveland Orchestra played last saturday here in Budapest a wonderful concert. This was my first time to hear an American Symphony Orchestra, and I really must say I'm very impressed !! Brahms Academic Ouverture was wonderful as well as the two symphonies they played after that. My questions:

Who knows more about Mr.Yasuhito Sugiyama the tuba-player? Why was it the in the Orchestra-Member list that the Tuba position is vacant? What are the tubas which he plays?

Thank You, and best regards:

Vilmos

Mr. Sugiyama was a member of the Vienna Philharmonic, not the Berlin as far as I know.

as far as I know that is the way the clevland orchestra works, they select a member for a year to see how they work out. then make the decision

Then why are they holding another audition in January? This all seems very odd to me!

I have no idea if I am right or not, I read it in an article about the orchestra once.
